Junction 42: public hearing scheduled
Red Deer County will hold a joint public hearing on November 17, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. for the Junction 42 planning amendment and proposed 13.82-acre rezoning. Written submissions received by November 6, 2026 will appear in the agenda.
Why it matters: Residents now have a confirmed opportunity to comment. The rezoning area differs from the proposed 11.48-acre parcel for subdivision and sale; neither planning change is approval to build the data centre.

Why it matters: Cooling without process water would reduce water needs, but the campus still needs a supply for staff and fire protection. Its final electricity arrangements remain unresolved, including an off-site plant described only in the provincial registry among the reviewed project records.

Grande Prairie County has started a bylaw change that would require future data centres to seek their own zoning designation. Residents can submit feedback now and take part in a public hearing on December 2, 2026.
Why it matters: The change would identify data centre proposals earlier in the planning process. It has not received final approval or overturned Emerson Trail's existing permit, which leaves electricity demand, water needs, and the final power supply unresolved.

The permit identifies 2,560 L/day of water capacity for the property. eStruxture estimates that running 19 backup generators at the loads in its filing would use about 11,920 L of diesel and release 32 tonnes of carbon dioxide per hour.
Why it matters: During a power outage, several diesel generators could run together, including overnight. Actual water use and sound at nearby homes during an outage remain unconfirmed.
